NOTRE DAME PREP TO RETURN TO IRELAND
Notre Dame Prep is proud to announce that we will be a key participant in the Global Ireland Football Tournament (GIFT) 2023, produced by Global Football as part of the Notre Dame-Navy Aer Lingus College Football Classic, Aug. 22-27, 2023. This is the third time that NDP has been selected for this honor, and the second time that we will actually go because the 2020 tournament was canceled.
"Going to Ireland is an outstanding opportunity for our entire community. Not only is it going to be great to compete overseas against another high school, but it is going to be a fantastic educational experience to learn about Ireland and meet the people who live there. We will create great memories with our students and their families," said NDP head varsity football coach George Prelock. "I hope the people in Ireland will see us for who we are as a faith-based community that is reverent, respectful and responsible. I hope when they meet us, they say those are a talented group of kids and a dang good football team!" he added.
Notre Dame Prep returns to the GIFT event having played in the inaugural event staged in 2012, the last time the Fighting Irish and the US Naval Academy traveled to Ireland. “It is an honor to welcome Notre Dame Prep of Arizona back to Dublin again as I vividly recall their team and supporters who were so excited to experience the Irish culture firsthand, and returned home with lifelong memories,” notes Patrick Steenberge of Global Football. “They played a determined Father Judge School team from Philadelphia in 2012 and were able to earn a victory at historic Park Tailteann in Navan. Matchups for next year’s GIFT games will be announced shortly as all participating teams are still playing, finishing their seasons in their state playoffs and/or conference championships.”
NDP will take the entire Saints varsity football team, cheer and pom teams, NDP Live students, Dog Pound members, selected faculty, staff and administrators. All parents and students interested in going must fill out the appropriate link below so that we can make arrangements.
“We are excited that our students have been invited to go over to Ireland next fall for one of the most memorable experiences of their lives,” said Dr. Gene Sweeney, Principal of NDP. “This is an honor for our students and for our football players, this will be a game they will tell their grandchildren about someday. We look forward to a large contingent from our community traveling across the Atlantic to join local fans and share this amazing educational, cultural, and sports experience.”
The Global Ireland Football Tournament (GIFT) will be played Friday, Aug. 25, 2023, a warmup event to the University of Notre Dame-Navy game on Saturday, Aug. 26. GIFT games will be played in Energia Stadium, formerly Donnybrook Stadium in Dublin’s south side, just a few kilometers from Aviva Stadium where the ND-Navy game will be contested. The game will be broadcasted on NBC. GIFT games will be streamed worldwide from Dublin.
