NDP's new behavioral health counselor Lesley Adams, joined our counseling staff in January, 2018. With several years of marriage and family therapy experience, she is excited to help NDP students navigate the stress and anxiety that comes with being a teenager.
"It's important for our students to have a safe person to come to when they feel depressed and anxious," Adams said. "There is a certain amount of stress that is part of normal development, but social media brings in a whole new element."
Adams was raised in Artesia, New Mexico. She attended New Mexico State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in family and consumer science. After that, she earned her master's degree in marriage and family therapy from Arizona State University. She has worked more than 10 years in behavioral health. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge in trauma therapy, coping skills and self-regulation. "I hope to help our students 'zoom out' and understand the big picture of their lives so that when disappointments come along, they will have the skills to accept what comes their way," she said.
Working with parents to solve issues is very important to Adams. "I am open to meeting in the evening, on the phone or through email to bring parents in as part of my team to help students," she said.
Adams is newly married and lives with her husband David and their English bulldog, Barkley. To reach her, please call (480)634-8269 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
