House Scoop

Monthly House Winners: November: St. Teresa

  • St. Teresa won November after donating 35 turkeys for the STA Turkey Drive benefitting St. Mary's Food Bank.  They currently sit in 1st place overall with 159 points.  St. George is a very close 2nd at 157 points. 
     
  •  We have several ways to get House points in December: attendance at the Winter Arts Nights on Dec. 7th and 9th (you must check in with Ms. Melnychenko or Mr. Corbett in the PAC lobby to get your House point), the NHS Toy Drive (1 point per toy donated by the 13th), and earn a COIN and deposit it in your house's jar in the COMM.  The House in 1st place at the end of the 1st semester will get a treat once we return in January. 
     
  • The NDP chapter of the National Honor Society will collect toys and games to brighten the holiday season for local children in need. This year, faculty, staff and students will join forces to collect gifts AND earn House Points. Every toy or game counts as one point. The House with the most points will win the competition. The dates for collection are from Oct. 25 to Dec. 13. Donations will be collected in the CCI each morning from 7:30 to 7:55 a.m. and after school from 2:30 to 3 p.m.
    • There is no minimum cost for the donation. Acceptable items include sports equipment, crayons, coloring books, board games, Matchbox cars and trucks, Lego sets, dolls, etc. No stuffed animals (new or used) will be accepted. 
    • Your donation can be a charitable tax deduction for students or parents.

  • Our next Kairos Retreat will take place Nov. 30- Dec. 3! Students who want more information on Kairos this year can email Fr. Kurt. 
     
  • Bible Study is every Thursday during BOTH lunches in the COMM, as long as it’s a regular scheduled week. 
     
  • Happy Hanukkah to all our Jewish brothers and sisters!

      • Junior - 40 (Culminative 70)

Arts

  • Auditions for the Spring Musical, Cinderella, on Dec 6th and 7th with callbacks on the 8th. Please email Ms. Sequeira with questions. 

  • Intro to Theatre's Christmas performance, alongside NDP's dance classes will take place on Dec. 7th in the PAC. Admission is free. 
  • The NDP Music Department Concert featuring Jazz Ensemble, Guitar Orchestra, Bella Voce and Concert Choir will take place at 7 pm on Thursday, December 9th in the PAC. Admission is free. 

Athletic Scoop

  • The No. 7 seeded Notre Dame Prep varsity football team lost in the AIA 5A State Quarterfinals 45-42 at No. 2 Salpointe Friday night. Senior Gavin Smith had four touchdowns for the Saints including a 100-yard kickoff return. Led by the efforts of Smith, the Saints overcame a 24-7 deficit at halftime, but the second half comeback came up short. Senior Gavin Smith had seven rushes for 95 yards with two touchdowns and four receptions for 106 yards with a touchdown. He added a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, finishing the game with 377 all-purpose yards. Hudson Stych and Braden Wells added touchdowns for the Saints. Wells was 14-for-21 for 199 yards with two passing touchdowns in his final game. Wyatt Harris had a team-best 11 tackles to lead the team.
     
  • The Boys Basketball varsity team went 2-2 at the Valley Christian Thanksgiving Tournament with wins over Fountain Hills and ALA Queen Creek. The Saints are back in action on Monday against Coconino. First game starts at 4 p.m. at Jensen Gym, and all three games are on the NFHS Network.
  • The Girls Basketball team defeated Centennial and Copper Canyon in the Feast Mode Thanksgiving Tournament at Desert Mountain last week. Senior Charlotte Kelsom scored a tournament high 25 points in the win over Copper Canyon and Ava Pautz scored in double digits in all four games. The Saints travel to Flagstaff to take on Coconino Monday.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • Former Grand Canyon collegiate player and NDP Head Coach Jamie Walsh will hold a high school camp (9-12th Grade) on Jan. 15 from 10-12:30 at Scottsdale Ranch Park. Registration fee is $50.
  • The Hockey program has been busy off the ice the last few weeks. They have volunteered at the Special Olympics swim meet, St Mary's Super Saturday, St Bernard Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast benefitting local charities and at St Joseph the Worker cleaning their housing facility for the homeless. Thank you, Saints for your service.

AWARDS

  • Senior Gavin Smith was recognized with a pair of awards this week. He was selected by The Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club (GCSGC) as a recipients of the Week 13 Ed Doherty Award Nomination Medallion™. He will attend the end of season Ed Doherty Award Luncheon on December 18, 2021, where one athlete will become the recipient of the Ed Doherty Award. The Arizona Republic also named him Player of the Week.
     
  • Senior Acacia Connor was announced as one of the first 10 girls to be named a 2022 All-American. The games will be at the Star in Frisco this summer and televised on ESPN. Congratulations Acacia!
     
  • The Notre Dame Prep hockey program placed nine student-athletes on the Arizona High School Hockey Association’s All-Star teams. The game will be held on Dec. 4 at Gila River Arena when the team will be playing in Las Vegas the Anaheim Ducks High School Showcase.
    • The Division I selections include forward #17 Carson Curry, forward #4 Kade Gramlich, defender #5 Connor White. Forwards #18 Cody Bjorndal and Adam Kaplan were named alternates to the team.
    • The Division 3 selections include forward #44 Ethan Bloch, forward #4 Fel Edmunds, defender #24 Brody Smith and goalie #4 Matthew Gahan.

 

Senior Scoop 

  • Seniors! Please stop by the counseling office to pin the College Board for any schools that you have been accepted to. Also, please send all scholarship info you have been awarded to Mrs. Cusano at lcusano@ndpsaints.org. Please report all scholarships even the ones you decline. 

  • Senior Yearbook Ads - Payment due November 15, 2021Click here to pay for your ad. The deadline for turning in all materials for your senior’s ad is January 15th. If you prefer that NDP produces your ad, please send 4 to 6 photos and the message you wish to use by Jan. 15. Scan your photos at home, and email them as JPEGs, PNGs or PDFS along with a word document containing the message to be placed on the ad. Please send all content to Mrs. Strolic at rstrolic@ndpsaints.org. As part of our senior page layouts, we put your child’s baby/toddler photo (2 to 4 years, please) next to the senior portrait. Baby pictures are due by December 15, 2021

  • National Honor Society (NHS) seniors have the opportunity to be awarded a scholarship for their commitment to service, schoolwork and leadership. Around 600 students will be chosen for the scholarship. The deadline for applications is December 1. Click here for more information.

    • If you received any scholarship offers (regardless of whether or not you will accept it) such as a merit or athletic, please bring a copy to Mrs. Cusano or email it to her, and she will update your scholarship awards in SCOIR.
