Soccer Teams Advance to 4A State Champions Games Tuesday at Williams Field HS

The Notre Dame Preparatory boys’ and girls’ varsity soccer teams advanced to the Arizona Interscholastic Association 4A State Championship games on Tuesday at Williams Field High School. The top-seeded girls’ team will play No. 7 Salpointe at 4:45 p.m., while No. 4 seeded boys play No. 2 Salpointe Catholic at 7:00 p.m.

Volleyball Postseason Honors Include All-American, All- Arizona Selections

The 4A State Champion Notre Dame Prep volleyball team was recognized with several honors following the championship season. Senior McKenna Douglas and sophomore Evam Hendrix were named to the All-Arizona team selected by the Arizona Republic, while Hendrix was chosen to the MaxPrep UnderClass All-America second team.

Football Falls to Salpointe in State Quarterfinals

The No. 7 seeded Notre Dame Prep varsity football team lost in the AIA 5A State Quarterfinals 45-42 at No. 2 Salpointe Friday night. Senior Gavin Smith had four touchdowns for the Saints including a 100-yard kickoff return. Led by the efforts of Smith, the Saints overcame a 24-7 deficit at halftime, but the second half comeback came up short.

Football Wins Senior Night Contest, Earns 5A Playoff Home Game

The Notre Dame Prep football team earned an AIA 5A playoff berth as the No. 7 seed and will host No. 10 Apollo on Friday, November 19 at 7 p.m. at Bemis Field. Tickets will be required for all fans, including students, and are available via GoFan.

Volleyball Wins 4A State Championship

The Notre Dame Prep volleyball team won the AIA 4A State Championship on Saturday. The Saints fought hard and were able to claim a 3-0 victory over Canyon del Oro High School at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. It is the third volleyball state championship in school history (2007, 2015). The Saints finished the season undefeated at 21-0 in 4A play and with a 37-5 overall record.

Cross Country Finishes Historic Season at AIA State Championships

The Notre Dame Prep cross teams completed their historic season with the girls placing 16th and boys finishing 17th at the AIA Division III Cross Country Championships held at Cave Creek Golf Course. It was the first time in school history both teams advanced to the state championships in the same season.

JV Pom Program Starting This Winter

The Notre Dame Prep athletics department will start a Junior Varsity Pom program this winter. Interested students should complete their Final Forms registration and select JV Pom under the Manage Sports section. There will be an interest meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 2:45 p.m. in the Cafeteria.

Swimming & Diving Qualifies 18 for AIA DIII State Championships

The Notre Dame Prep swimming and diving team qualified 18 participants for the AIA Division III State Championships this weekend. Diving will be contested at Brophy Prep on Thursday (prelims) and Friday (finals), while the swimming will be contested at Phoenix Country Day.

Cross Country Teams Qualify for AIA State Championships

The Notre Dame Prep cross country program had a great day at the AIA Division III Metro Section meet at Cesar Chavez Park on Tuesday. The girls finished second and boys placed third as both teams qualified for the AIA DIII State Championships on Nov. 13.

Cross Country Runs at Sectionals

The Notre Dame Prep cross country programs will run at the AIA Division III Metro Section meet on Tuesday, November 2 at Cesar Chavez Park in Laveen. Admission is free. The top 50 percent of the finishing teams will qualify for the AIA State Championships Nov. 13.

Girls Golf Ninth at AIA DII State Championships

The Notre Dame Prep Girls Golf team is in ninth place after the first round of the AIA DII Girls State Golf Championships at the Tucson National Golf Course. The Saints shot a 347 to stand eight strokes back of eighth-place Desert Mountain (339) in the team standings.

Girls Swimming Finishes Second at Small Schools Invitational

The Notre Dame Prep swimming and diving teams participated at the Small Schools Championship at Phoenix Country Day High School Saturday, Oct. 23. The girls team placed second overall in the standings behind host Phoenix Country Day School, while the boys team finished 17th. The teams combined for 12 individual and relay top-10 finishes.

Football Wins Fourth Straight Game with Victory at Maricopa

The Notre Dame Prep football team won its fourth consecutive game with a 49-0 victory over Maricopa High School on Thursday night. The game was featured on the Epic Sports Thursday Night Game of the Week broadcast. NDP improved to 5-2 on the season.

Peter Bourjos: Alumni Hall of Fame Induction Adds to List of Firsts

Former Notre Dame Prep baseball player Peter Bourjos ’05 will be inducted into the school’s Forever Saints Alumni Hall of Fame on Friday as part of the weekend Homecoming festivities. Bourjos joins a distinguished group of former students and faculty selected for the inaugural Hall of Fame class that was originally selected in 2020.

Boys Golf Takes Second in Flagstaff at Ridge Invite

The Notre Dame Prep boys golf team finished second at the Ridge Invitational on Saturday, posting the second-best round on the day at 311 to move up into runner-up finish and top finish among Division II teams. Liberty won the team title at 588 after rounds of 295-292.

Sophomore Jack Taylor shot a one-under par 35 to win medalist honors and lead the Notre Dame Prep boys golf team to victory over Saguaro and Higley on Thursday. The Saints posted a 154 team score to win by eight over Saguaro (162) and Higley (166).

Boys Basketball Open Gym Opportunities

Sophomore Evan Hendrix was named the Arizona MaxPreps/AVCA Player of the Week by the organizations on Wednesday. She was one of 43 student-athletes honored by America’s source for high school sports and the leading volleyball organization for their performances during the week of August 30-September 5.

Football Senior Wyatt Harris Creates 2021 Souper Bowl Food Drive

Notre Dame Prep senior Wyatt Harris has created a citywide food drive to benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank and is inviting Phoenix area high school and youth football teams to participate. Teams will collect canned food and donations at a home game over the first month of the season with the top three teams by weight getting a cash donation to their football program.

Freshman Girls Tennis Information

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - If you are a freshman girl and you are interested in playing tennis this fall, please plan on attending a brief meeting after school Tuesday, August 18th in the COMM. Ruvo Breaks School Record in the 100 Meters, Earns Pair of Podium Finishes

Junior John Ruvo ran a blistering 10.69 personal-best and school record in the finals of the 100 meters at the AIA Division III State Track and Field Championships to highlight a memorable night at Desert Vista High School. He finished the meet by posting his second personal-best of the night, clocking a 21.87 in the 200 meters to place third overall by five thousandths of a second in a virtual dead heat.

Senior Luke Nash has been named the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Arizona Male Student-Athlete Scholarship winner. He joined Serena Turner of Xavier College Preparatory as the winners from the state of Arizona.

Junior John Ruvo had the top finish of the meet as he finished fourth in the 100 meters at the Brophy Invitational Friday in 11.05. Overall, seven Saints competed in the season opening meet.

Boys Basketball Pushes Top-Seed St. Mary’s in 54-42 Loss

The Notre Dame Prep boys basketball team took a 10-point first half lead and led at halftime before top-seed Saint Mary’s took the lead in the second half for a 54-42 victory. The Saints, who were the No. 16 seed and in the playoffs for the first time since 2012-13, finished the season at 9-8.

The No. 7 Notre Dame Prep girls basketball team posted a 48-22 win over No. 12 Combs (13-4) to open the AIA 4A State playoffs. Junior Charlotte Kelmon led the team with 14 points and the Saints posted a strong defensive effort to defeat the Coyotes.

Girls Basketball Celebrates Senior Night with Win

Senior Shannon Nagel scored a career-high 20 points in a 89-15 victory over Cactus to close out the home schedule and improve to 14-2 on the season. Five Saints scored in double figures and Mia Tokish grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds in the win.

The Notre Dame Prep boys soccer team posted a 2-0 win over Flagstaff with goals by junior Richard Kearney and freshman Riley McMenomy. It was the seventh shutout of the season and fifth consecutive heading into the playoffs. The team has won seven straight since a 3-2 loss to Deer Valley on Feb. 10.

Payton Riggins is in her second season in the NDP basketball program. She moved to Arizona from Texas before the start of high school. She has two older sisters. She was named after NFL player Peyton Manning.

Peyton Layne is a three-year letter winner for the program. She was an All-Northeast Valley second-team selection at forward and plays for the Arizona Arsenal. She is second on the team in goals (5) and tied for team lead in assists (5). She likes to travel and go to the beach in her free time.

The Notre Dame Prep varsity basketball team had four players score in double figures and connected on 12 three-pointers in a 74-37 victory over Saguaro Saturday. It was the fourth consecutive victory for the team, improving to 7-5 on the season.

Elsa Davis has been a four-year member of the soccer program. After earning Impact Player of the Year as a freshman, she has been a two-time 5A All-Northeast Valley Region selection at defender. She has two younger sisters, including Laurel, who is a member of the JV team. She plays electrical and classical guitar in her free time and has traveled to 25 countries.

Izzy de Avila (Day Ah-vela) is the top returning scorer for the Saints and one of the team captains this season. She was the Region Offensive Player of the Year in 2020 and was named to the 5A All-Conference first team. She is a House Captain for Saint Valentine, serves as an Ambassador and recently joined Hope Kids Club. She is undecided on college but is looking at the Division III Catholic University of America.

Liam McSherry has been a four-year varsity player for the Saints and plays for Phoenix Rising. He was named the Arizona Republic Boys Athlete of the Week after the first week. D1 Hockey Playoffs Open this Weekend

The Notre Dame Prep D1 hockey team will open the Arizona High School Hockey Association playoffs on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 6:10 p.m. against Campo Verde at the Scottsdale Ice Den. The AHSHA and Ice Den will only be allowing two parents per player with wristbands and no students or general public will be allowed.

Girls Basketball's Senior Alivia Pautz Reaches 1,000-point Milestone

Needing just one point, it was a perfect that Notre Dame Pre senior Alivia Pautz was sent to the charity stripe early in the first quarter against Saguaro to help her reach the 1,000-point milestone after entering the game with 999 career points in her four-year career at Notre Dame Prep. Pautz missed the first attempt but the second was good to hit 1,000 on the mark and Saguaro AD Matt Harris stopped the game to recognize the achievement.

Boys Soccer Hands Saguaro 1-0 Loss

Sophomore Quinn Galvin knocked in the game winner on a header as Notre Dame Prep handed Arizona Republic sixth-ranked Saguaro Super 10 team a 1-0 loss Thursday at Bemis Field.

Five Named to D3 Hockey All-Star Team

The Notre Dame Prep D3 Hockey team is represented by a league-best five players on the Arizona High School Hockey Association D# All-Star team. The All-Star Saints include forwards freshman Carson Curry, freshman Reed Gramlich, defenders sophomore Evan Kobley and sophomore Connor White and goalie freshman Mathew Gahan.

Ben Stafford is in his second season on the varsity team. He is one of three brothers to attend NDP including Jackson ‘20, who played baseball, and his younger brother, Nicholas ‘23 on the JV team. He also plays golf in his free time and was on the school’s JV team this year. Ben will be attending Texas Christian University in the fall.

The Notre Dame Prep girls basketball team improved to 6-1 as senior Alivia Pautz poured in 25 points in a 63-47 victory over Peoria. Three players were in double figures including 12 by Ava Pautz and 10 by Charlotte Kelmon.

Senior Aiden Mickey recorded a hat trick Friday night against Chaparral in a 7-0 win by the Saints that was part of a 3-0 weekend for the D1 program including wins over Hamilton and Desert Vista. The D3 team won its lone match 4-1 over Pinnacle.

Girls Soccer Opens Season with 2OT Win over Deer Valley

Junior Peyton Layne scored off a cross from senior Izzy de Avila late in the second overtime to propel the Saints to a 2-1 victory over Deer Valley. Freshman Chloe Grindall provided the overtime opportunity with a second half goal to tie the game for her first high school goal.

Get To Know: Soccer's #0 Maya Ford

Maya Ford is in her second season at NDP after moving to Arizona from New Jersey. She suffered a stress fracture last season that limited her to the late season and playoffs. Maya also competes on the track and field team (triple, high and long jumps, 100 meters). She is a member of NHS and the Spanish National Honor Society and was the schools female nominee for the NIAAA Scholar Athlete Award.

Mia Tokish is in her third season on the varsity team. She missed her junior campaign due to a knee injury but is back this year. She has seen action in all  four games with single-game season-highs of six points and eight rebounds. She is planning on attending Arizona State University and pursue a degree in Nursing or English. She is a member of the Diversity club and enjoys singing and playing instruments.

He had a career-best 27 points against Desert Mountain. He is still undecided on college but hopes to play basketball. He has one older brother, Alex ‘20, who attends Arizona now.

The Saints got a third straight double-double by senior Alivia Pautz with a season-high 20 points and 12 rebounds. The girls basketball and boys soccer games are available on the NFHS Network, while all three of the boys basketball games are being shown by the Peoria Student Broadcast Network.

AIA Board Reverses Decision: Winter Sports Are Back!

The AIA’s Executive Board voted to begin winter sports next week with new modifications requiring all students, coaches and officials to wear a mask for the entirety of competitions and practices.  The vote came after winter sports were halted by the group last Friday.

Winter Sports Canceled by the AIA, Spring Sports Workouts Postponed

Due to the continued presence of Covid-19 and having the nation’s highest rate of coronavirus hospitalizations, the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee (SMAC) made a recommendation on January 7th to the AIA’s Executive Board to cancel the high school winter sports season. The decision ends the seasons for basketball (boys and girls), soccer (boys and girls) and wrestling among the Notre Dame Prep sponsored sports.

The Notre Dame Prep football team garnered eight All-Region first-team selections and Head Coach George Prelock was named the Coach of the Year on the 5A San Tan All-Region teams announced on Thursday. Overall, the Saints had 14 student-athletes earn 17 all-region honors.

Notre Dame Prep to Start Winter Sports on Nov. 30

Notre Dame Prep Athletics will start practice for Winter Sports beginning the week of Nov. 30 for each of the sports including basketball, soccer and wrestling. Teams will be required to have 14 days of practice before the start of competition on Tuesday, Jan. 5. All student-athletes must have the Family ID registration completed before participating.

Football’s Roberts Participates in PSA for Suicide Prevention

Alexa is in her second season on the varsity team. She likes to play the guitar in her free time. Cross Country Wins Tri-Meet at Fountain Hills

Senior Cameron Graninger took home the individual title in the tri-meet with Fountain Hills and San Tan Foothills on Wednesday, running the 5K course in 19:36. The Saints posted three of the top five finishers in winning the meet 25-45 over Fountain Hills and San Tan Foothills (55).

Boys Golf Second to Brophy in Season Opener

Senior Sean Lehman finished second overall in the match with Brophy and Seton Catholic to lead the Notre Dame Prep boys golf team to a 143 team score. Brophy won the match with a 140 and Seton Catholic was nine strokes back at 152.

Sophomore Charlotte Kim shot an eight-over par 43 to lead the Notre Dame Prep girls golf team to a 191-206 win over Paradise Valley in the season opener for both schools. It was one of the first high school events to start the fall season in Arizona.

The Fiesta Bowl will celebrate its 50th season in 2020-21 with Nick Smith as Chair of the Yellow Jacket Committee. Smith, a varsity football coach at NDP, served as Chair-Elect in the 2019-20 season, alongside David Dorward, who led the committee last year.
