Volleyball Takes House of Payne Invitational

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Notre Dame Prep volleyball team went undefeated and dropped just a single set (14-1) in winning the House of Payne Invitational on Saturday.

The Saints setup the weekend with a 3-0 day on Friday, sweeping host Chandler and Desert Ridge and defeating Sunnyslope 2-1.

On Saturday, they advanced in pool play with 2-0 wins over Gilbert and Sandra Day O’Connor. The O’Connor match featured late comebacks to take the match 26-24 and 29-27 to remain undefeated.

The Saints defeated Gilbert for the second time in the Gold Bracket semifinals and then took down 2020 5A runner up Perry 2-0 in the finals. The Pumas were 17-1 last season.

Sophomore Evan Hendrix was the named the Tournament Most Valuable Player. She had 22 kills in the championship match and recorded 108 over the seven matches, averaging 15.4 per match. She added 12 aces, 45 digs and four blocks.

NDP improved to 9-0 on the season. They host Paradise Honors on Tuesday at Jensen Gym.
