Sports Recap Week of January 16-22, 2023

NDP Athletic Families, here is our weekly recap!

Cheer/Pom
Our Cheer and Pom teams competed in the AIA State Championships from Jan. 20-21. On Friday, Cheer, Pom and Jazz all performed well enough to advance to Saturday's finals. When our Pom team took the stage they performed a nearly flawless routine, and earned the title of state runner-up. Our Jazz team also did well and earned the state runner-up title. Our Cheer team competed early on Saturday and finished in 8th place in a very competitive field. The team did take home the special Dynamic Dance Award. What a great weekend ladies! Now it's time to get ready for USA Nationals!

Girls' Soccer
Girls Varsity Soccer won two close games this past week. First a 2-1 win over Campo Verde. After going down 1-0 on a penalty kick, the Saints battled back with 2 goals to take down the Coyotes. Then on Friday, the Saints beat the Falcons from Cactus Shadows 1-0. The JV girls also won both of their games over Campo Verde 3-1 and Cactus Shadows 2-1.

Boys Soccer
Boys Varsity Soccer played a very good Campo Verde team on Tuesday and lost 1-5 and later traveled to Cactus Shadows on Friday losing a very good game 0-2. The JV boys lost to Campo Verde 0-7 and also lost to Cactus Shadows 1-5.

Girls Basketball played three games last week, winning two and losing one. The Saints opened up with Chaparral on Tuesday and took down the Firebirds 75-43 with a fourth-quarter running clock. On Thursday, the Varsity Saints made the quick trip to Horizon and lost a close one in overtime 48-51. Then on Friday, the Saints traveled to Desert Mountain and dominated the Wolves 71-29. Great job!

Boys Basketball
Boys Varsity Basketball traveled to Chapparal on Tuesday and torched the Firebirds 81-53. Thursday's home game vs Horizon was much closer, as the Saints held on in overtime 83-80. The JV boys lost to Chap 54-79 and also lost to Horizon 64-71. The Frosh team lost to both Chap 47-73 and to Horizon 39-55.
