Sports Recap Week of Jan 30, 2023

NDP Athletic Families, here is our last Winter regular season update:

 

Girls' Soccer 

Girls Varsity Soccer won both of their games again this week moving to 20-0-1 on the season and earning the title of Region Champs! On Tuesday, the Saints took down an undefeated Millenium team 3-0 and Friday NDP downed close rival Desert Mountain 2-0. The Varsity Saints did not give up a goal in Region play! JV Soccer also beat a tough Millenium team 2-1 as well as Desert Mountain 2-1. Great season JV Soccer Saints and on to the playoffs for the Varsity Squad - let's go!

  

Boys Soccer

Boys Varsity Soccer finished their season last week - on Monday, NDP traveled to Millenium and lost a great battle 0-1 and on Senior Day, played tough but lost to Desert Mountain 1-3. The JV boys were up against Millenium 1-0, but lost late in the game 1-2. Against Desert Mountain, the JV Saints lost 1-3. We'll see our Boys' soccer teams again next Winter - Go Saints! 

  

Girls Basketball

Girls Basketball played finished their regular season last week, first beating Chapparal at their house 71-46. In the regular season finale, your Varsity Girls' Saints got some revenge from an overtime loss earlier in the season to Horizon. This time NDP dominated the game, winning 53-31. NDP was awarded the #20 seed in the first ever AIA Open Tournament and will travel to #13 Dobson on Tuesday night at 7pm. Go Saints!

  

Boys Basketball

Boys Varsity Basketball played three times last week, beating Chapparal 75-44, beating Horizon 73-57 and losing to a tough Millenium squad at their place 66-71. The Varsity Team earned the #14 seed in the first ever AIA Open Tournament and will host #19 North Canyon on Wednesday night at 7pm. Go Saints! The JV boys beat Chapparal 58-55, ---- to Horizon ----- and ----- to Millenium -----.

The Freshman boys lost to Chapparal 24-52, lost to Horizon 50-64 and lost to Millenium ------ to close out their regular season.

 

Wrestling

NDP Wrestling traveled to West Point High School last Wednesday for their regular season finale. Up next is Sectionals this Saturday!

 

Cheer/Pom 

Cheer and Pom are both focusing their attention on USA nationals in Anaheim at the end of the month. Go Saints!

 

Hockey 

DI Hockey played in the Arizona State Championship last Saturday night at ASU's Mullett Arena and lost a HEARTBREAKER in overtime by a score of 4-5. Our Saints played their hearts out only to come up a little short. The atmosphere was electric - what a great opportunity for our players. We are proud of what you accomplished this season and look forward to watching the team take the ice again next season. The D2 team continues towards the end of their season, beating Chapparal last Sunday 2-0.

 

Boys Lacrosse

Boy's Lacrosse played Palo Verde last Saturday at Brophy and lost a close one 10-11. 

 

Girls Lacrosse

Girl's Lacrosse are continuing to work hard towards their first game coming up soon!


 

Sports Recap Week of September 5, 2022 

 

Volleyball:  

The Varsity Volleyball team had a full slate of games last week - 2 non-league matches as well as a tournament. The Saints went 8-3 on the week, opening with a huge come from behind win over Verrado on Wednesday night. The Saints were down 0-2 to start the match but clawed their way back to force a 5th and deciding set. The Dog Pound was in full effect and helped push our NDP Saints to a 15-13 final set win! Over the weekend, the team went 6-3 at the Westwood Tournament of Champions and finished in 2nd place in the Silver Bracket. Junior Evan Hendrix ('24) fired her 1000th career high school kill for NDP. What a great achievement!   

The JV volleyball Team went 2-0 on the week and the Frosh Team finished 1-1. 

  

Football:  

The Varsity Football Team opened their home campaign with a decisive 50-0 trouncing over visiting Ironwood. Junior Quarterback Noah Trigueros fired 5 touchdown passes with 280 passing yards. Sophomore Cooper Perry hauled in four touchdown receptions and 124 total receiving yards. Junior Reid Meyer ran for 58 yards and a TD as well. The JV Team lost a close one 14-24 to Desert Edge while the Freshman Team  beat visiting Ironwood 30-6. 

  

Cross Country 

NDP's Cross Country teams raced at the Fountain Hills Invite at Fountain Park on Saturday with Junior Evan Grawer placing 7th for our boy's team and Junior Ava Handel placing 14th for our girl's team. Boys Varsity placed 6th overall and girl's varsity placed 12th overall. 

  

Girls Golf 

Girls Golf squared off against Cactus Shadows on Wednesday and Makenna Cox led the way for the Saints with a 52. 

  

Boys Golf 

Boy's golf took down Desert Mountain on Tuesday with a score of 147-162. Freshman Landon Ashcroft fired a 33 to lead all golfers. 

  

Swimming 

Swimming had the week off. 

  

Cheer/Pom 

Cheer and Pom looked fantastic as they showed NDP Saints Spirit at the Varsity Football game last Thursday night. The halftime performance was great! Keep working hard, ladies - your first competitions will be here before you know it! 

  

Hockey 

The D1 Hockey Team opened their regular season and won twice over the weekend, beating Campo Verde 5-3 and Brophy 6-1. Junior, Cody Bjorndale tallied 4 goals and Senior, Tyler Posch scored five goals respectively. Shout out to the great crowd at the Brophy game on Sunday Night.
