Senior Brock Narveson was named the 5A San Tan Region Defensive Player of the Year among 16 accolades for the Saints team as selected by the region coaches.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Senior Brock Narveson was named the 5A San Tan Region Defensive Player of the Year among 16 accolades for the Saints team as selected by the region coaches.

Narveson recorded 67 tackles and 8.5 tackles for loss, the second-best total on the team, with a team-best four interceptions and a fumble caused to earn the Region Defensive Player of the Year. He was also named to the all-region second team at wide receiver.

The Saints placed three players on the all-region first team defense including sophomore safety Tommy Romano, junior defensive lineman Ben Roberts and linebacker Ethan Bush. Romano was third on the team in tackles with 72 with six passes defended to rank second. Roberts led the team in sacks and was sixth overall in tackles (61). Bush was fifth in tackles and third in sacks (3.5).

Senior defensive lineman Dillon Jones and senior linebacker Wyatt Harris earned second-team accolades.  Jones ranked second in sacks (5.0) and third in tackles for loss with 48 total tackles, while Harris led the team in tackles with 82 and recorded 5.5 tackles for loss.

Senior wide receiver Gavin Smith joined offensive lineman Duke Frye on the first team offensive all-region team. Smith recorded 46 catches for 733 yards and five touchdowns. Seniors Jake Burrow and Matt Reinhardt were named to the all-region second team with Narveson at receiver and Andrew Vines at running back.

Narveson had 20 catches for 293 yards and a team-best six touchdowns, while Vines led the team in rushing with 1,062 with 10 touchdowns and four 100-yard games. He is the eighth player in school history to record 1,000 or more yards.

Smith was also named to the all-region second team as a specialist.

NDP had three players earn all-region honorable mention honors including quarterback Braden Wells, cornerback Kegan Lynch and linebacker Deacon Shea. Wells threw for 1,832 yards with 21 touchdowns. Lynch had 27 tackles on thew season and Shea was second on the team with 73.

The Saints travel to No. 2 Salpointe on Friday for a 5A quarterfinal game.

Sports Recap Week of September 5, 2022 

 

Volleyball:  

The Varsity Volleyball team had a full slate of games last week - 2 non-league matches as well as a tournament. The Saints went 8-3 on the week, opening with a huge come from behind win over Verrado on Wednesday night. The Saints were down 0-2 to start the match but clawed their way back to force a 5th and deciding set. The Dog Pound was in full effect and helped push our NDP Saints to a 15-13 final set win! Over the weekend, the team went 6-3 at the Westwood Tournament of Champions and finished in 2nd place in the Silver Bracket. Junior Evan Hendrix ('24) fired her 1000th career high school kill for NDP. What a great achievement!   

The JV volleyball Team went 2-0 on the week and the Frosh Team finished 1-1. 

  

Football:  

The Varsity Football Team opened their home campaign with a decisive 50-0 trouncing over visiting Ironwood. Junior Quarterback Noah Trigueros fired 5 touchdown passes with 280 passing yards. Sophomore Cooper Perry hauled in four touchdown receptions and 124 total receiving yards. Junior Reid Meyer ran for 58 yards and a TD as well. The JV Team lost a close one 14-24 to Desert Edge while the Freshman Team  beat visiting Ironwood 30-6. 

  

Cross Country 

NDP's Cross Country teams raced at the Fountain Hills Invite at Fountain Park on Saturday with Junior Evan Grawer placing 7th for our boy's team and Junior Ava Handel placing 14th for our girl's team. Boys Varsity placed 6th overall and girl's varsity placed 12th overall. 

  

Girls Golf 

Girls Golf squared off against Cactus Shadows on Wednesday and Makenna Cox led the way for the Saints with a 52. 

  

Boys Golf 

Boy's golf took down Desert Mountain on Tuesday with a score of 147-162. Freshman Landon Ashcroft fired a 33 to lead all golfers. 

  

Swimming 

Swimming had the week off. 

  

Cheer/Pom 

Cheer and Pom looked fantastic as they showed NDP Saints Spirit at the Varsity Football game last Thursday night. The halftime performance was great! Keep working hard, ladies - your first competitions will be here before you know it! 

  

Hockey 

The D1 Hockey Team opened their regular season and won twice over the weekend, beating Campo Verde 5-3 and Brophy 6-1. Junior, Cody Bjorndale tallied 4 goals and Senior, Tyler Posch scored five goals respectively. Shout out to the great crowd at the Brophy game on Sunday Night.
