Senior Bansberg Named Division III Swimmer of the Year

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Senior William Bansberg was named the Division III Swimmer of the Year. He will swim at The Ohio State University in the Fall.

“Will Bansberg performed at an Elite Level at our D3 State Swimming Championship Meet winning the 100 Fly and 100 Back while recording Arizona’s fastest High School times in both events,” said Head Coach Bob Ostrander. “He also anchored our 200 Free Relay that placed 2nd thus earning him Male Swimmer of the Year for D3!

Bansberg is one of the top swimmers in the state and solidified his resume by winning two individual state titles (100 Back, 100 Fly) at the D3 AIA State Championships. He improved his time to a 49.09 in the 100 Fly and 49.73 in the 100 Back.

Bansberg also was part of the NDP 200 Free Relay that just missed winning the event by .37 of a second but swam a season’s best time by over two seconds finishing in a 1:32.64. Relay members included Nick Ward, Chris Matura and Aidan Rabasca.

He opened the meet with the 200 Medley Relay, swimming with Ward, Rabasca and Matura to a third-place finish (1:43.29).

He was named the Boys Most Valuable Swimmer at the team’s banquet.

Girls Swimmer of the Year- Taylor Bernosky, Scottsdale Prep 

Girls Dive Coach of the Year- Kristin Pruitt, Phoenix Country Day

Girls Diver of the Year- Alina Skrocki, Basis Flagstaff

Boys Coach of the Year- Mike Maczuga, Phoenix Country Day

Boys Swimmer of the Year- William Bansberg, Notre Dame

Boys Dive Coach of the Year- Marla Wasser, Cactus High

Boys Diver of the Year- Blaise Faser, Trivium Prep
