Congratulations to our NDP Varsity Girls Tennis team on a great 2022 season! Our girls ended the year as the Division II Section II Champions finishing the regular season with a perfect 14-0 record and ending with a 16-1 record overall! Freshman Georgia Cranford was named the Division II Section II Player of the Year and 2022 Division II Girls 1st Team All-State.
Georgia says that as a freshman she wasn’t sure what to expect, but with the support of her coaches, she wanted to play for NDP and help support her teammates on and off the tennis court.
She remarks this season was special because of the bonds that were created between each member on this team.
Over the next 3 years of her career at NDP, Georgia hopes to strengthen her faith with God, as she continues to grow as a student athlete.
When asked about what being Player of the Year means to her, Georgia said, “I am very honored to receive this award. I am grateful for the support I have received from my coaches and teammates throughout this season.”
Georgia would like to thank God, her family, coaches, teammates, teachers and friends who have contributed to her success at NDP.
Coach Dinges attributes the team’s success to everyone doing their part and stepping up when they needed to for their teammates.
Coach Dinges said, from the beginning she made it clear that “Every member of this team is important, and we all need to know our role and perform it to the best of our ability for the team to be successful.”
When asked about her seniors, Coach Dinges remarked, “ We had tremendous senior leadership this year. We definitely would not have had the success we had without them. They always stepped up when needed, even without being asked and they made the sacrifices that were necessary for the betterment of the team. They always put the team before themselves. They were great role models for all our future seniors, and they will be missed.”
The future is bright for NDP girls tennis with young talent on the team. Coach Dinges said she is thrilled with Freshman Player of the Year, Georgia Cranford’s success. “Georgia had a phenomenal season as a freshman. The work she puts in during the season as well as the off-season shows in everything she does. Her successes were not given to her they were earned, and no one deserves the Player of the Year Award more than her. She was also selected to the 2022 Division II Girls 1st Team All-State by the Arizona Tennis Coaches Association,” she said.
“The goal next year and every year is first and foremost to create a good team atmosphere and camaraderie amongst the players. This can sometimes be difficult in a sport that is often considered an individual sport, but no team can do well unless everyone works together and plays for something more than themselves. That is the goal that I, as a coach, try to accomplish every year. The second goal would be to win Section again and finish in the top 2,” Coach Dinges said.
