Get To Know: Soccer's #15 Daniel Furtmann

Daniel Furtmann has played all four years in the NDP soccer program. He has fought through a finger injury to get back in the field this year for his second season on varsity. He has two older sisters who played soccer at NDP: Amanda ’17 went to UA and is in grad school at Creighton and Abby ’18 plays college soccer at Lehigh University.

What are your goals for the season and helping this team?
“I am serious about it, but I am in it for the enjoyment of the soccer season. I stopped playing club soccer before last year’s season, so I have been playing on the school team for fun. I am competitive about and I want to win state. That would be awesome. I am working hard when I am on the field.”

What is the mindset of the defensive group?
“We have to stay strong back there. Brock is a great keeper. We must take the chances we can do to protect him. We don’t want to allow shots on him with pressure and make sure anything that gets close is shut down.”

What are your college plans?
“I have applied to 6-7 schools and I have got into all of them both in and out of state. I am leaning towards ASU. I have good scholarship there and they have a good engineering program. You really cannot beat it. I am interested in mechanical and civil engineering. I have always had an engineering mind, trying to figure out how things work.”

What do you like to do away from school and soccer?
“I am really into cars and like to go to car shows. If there is anything I can work on my car with my Dad or Grandpa, I do that. I like to play video games. That is what I do with my free time.”
