SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Notre Dame Prep varsity football team won its fourth consecutive game with a 49-0 victory over Maricopa High School on Thursday night. The game was featured on the "Epic Sports Thursday Night Game of the Week" broadcast. NDP improved to 5-2 on the season.
“The defense played outstanding again,” said Head Coach George Prelock. “They are really on a role creating turnovers. We had four interceptions today. Defensive Coordinator Nick Smith does a great job getting the boys ready. Offensive Coordinator Coach Jeff Fox did a great job capitalizing on the turnovers and creating some momentum.”
The shutout was the third straight for the Saints, who have out-scored their opponents 107-0 over that stretch. It was also the first time in school history the team had posted three straight shutouts.
Senior Gavin Smith started the scoring with a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown and senior Andrew Vines punched one in from four yards out to extend the lead to 14-0 in the first quarter.
Senior quarterback Braden Wells threw three touchdowns for the Saints including strikes to junior Will Halmakangis and senior Brock Narveson in the second quarter. Wells completed his third touchdown pass to sophomore Hudson Stych for a 29-yard scoring reception.
Sophomore Deacon Shea added two rushing scores for the Saints to complete the scoring.
NDP travels to Gilbert High School on Friday, October 29 for the final regular season road contest.
