Evan Hendrix Commits to TCU and Reaches Milestone 1000 Kills

Notre Dame Prep junior Evan Hendrix, 16, officially committed to play volleyball for Texas Christian University after spending the weekend of Sept. 4 touring the Fort Worth campus and watching the Frogs volleyball team compete.

The combination of the campus, the team and the leadership of TCU head coach Jason Williams were the deciding factors for Hendrix.

“I played for Coach Williams a couple of years ago with USA volleyball, and so I know him pretty well,” she said. “I think he is doing a really good job at TCU and bringing in some spectacular recruits, including one of my teammates from my club team.” When not playing for the Saints, Hendrix plays for Revolution.

Hendrix holds the record for number of “kills” in a season with 626 recorded last year. On Saturday, Sept. 10, the junior hit a milestone as the thirdNDP Saint to record 1,000 kills. The other two players were Willow Johnson ’16 and Jessie Terlizzi ’20.

Hendrix is the reigning 4A All-Conference and 4A West Valley Region Offensive Player of the Year for the 2021 season. She was instrumental in the Saints winning the 4A State Championship last year.

“Winning the state championship last year was by far my favorite memory at Notre Dame Prep,” Hendrix said. “That entire day from breakfast together, ‘serve and pass,’ listening to loud music on the bus, to playing in the finals was so exciting. We just knew it was our time.”

Hendrix, a former gymnast and dancer, started playing volleyball at age 7 after being told that she was too tall to be a gymnast. Now at 5’ 9”, she is on the shorter side for a volleyball player, but what she lacks in size, she makes up with her 36” vertical jump.

TCU offers the same type of feel as Notre Dame Prep, so Hendrix said she believes that it is the perfect fit for her collegiate career. “It’s a smaller school with a big school feel, and they have the same school colors,” she said. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity and I’m excited to play at the college level.”
