Baseball Finishes Strong 2022 Season

Congratulations to our NDP Varsity Baseball team on a great 2022 season! Our boys ended their year as the 4A West Valley Region Champions finishing in the top 8 teams of 4A with a final record of 17-5! There were 9 Saints recognized for their efforts this season with All-Region Awards.

Senior and Santa Clara Signee, Chris Gaudio, was named the 4A West Valley Region Player of the year!

Chris posted a .470 batting average, leading the team in hits, triples, home runs and RBI. He also carried a 2.54 ERA as the Saints ace pitcher with 63.1 innings pitched, 88 strikeouts and 5 wins to his credit.

Chris said his mentality for this season was to go out and to put the Saints in the best position to win, whether that be pitching or hitting. “This season was so special to me because the makeup of the team this year consisted mainly of kids who went to my middle school, Copper Ridge. Playing together with these guys who I grew up with just made this season one to remember,” Gaudio says.

He believes through hardships and successes, he will take his determination to win into his college career at Santa Clara University.

Chris wants to thank his mom and dad for pushing him to be the best baseball player, along with all of his coaches for teaching him and making me the player he is. Chris especially wants to thank Ike and Ron Davis who have taken him in like family and shown him how to be professional. Lastly Chris wants to thank God for the amazing opportunity and ability to play baseball.

Head Coach Brian Fischer attributes the teams success in the 2022 season to long hours in the weight room in the off season, along with a good start to the season going 6-0 against 6A teams. He says, “The kids bought into the system from the start.”

Last year the Varsity Baseball team graduated 16 players. They came into the 2022 season with only 2 returning players with varsity experience. Coach Fischer says, “the goal was to compete, get into playoffs and get experience. We exceeded all expectations with this team and had a great year.”

Coach Fischer says expectations are set high after the 2022 season. As NDP is headed back into 5A play, there will be a boost in strength of schedule. He says, “This year, our young players learned a lot on how to play this game. We will be ready to play the best in the state.”

In the off season, NDP baseball will be hosting an incoming Frosh program during this summer. For more information, check out our Camps and Clinics pages. The future looks good for NDP Baseball. Coach Fischer says, “Our returners will get bigger, faster, stronger, along with playing club to get ready for next season.”
