Alum Cade Bennett Returns to Valley with Oklahoma State for Fiesta Bowl

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Notre Dame Prep alum and Oklahoma State University redshirt freshman Cade Bennett ’20 is capping off the 2021 season with his teammates and playing in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl on Saturday against the University of Notre Dame at State Farm Stadium (ESPN, 11 a.m.).

“It is definitely a dream of mine to play in the Fiesta Bowl, said Bennett. “It is pretty awesome to be back home with the Pokes.”

Bennett signed with Oklahoma State in 2020 after completing a three-year varsity career with the Saints, playing both sides of the ball on teams that went a combined 37-4. As a senior, he anchored the offense and helped Notre Dame Prep to 3,249 rushing yards and 57 touchdowns on the ground.

“My favorite NDP memory is the friendships I made on the football team,” said Bennett. “I will be friends with those guys for the rest of my life.”

After redshirting in 2020, he saw his first game action this season against Kansas. Oklahoma State heads into the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl with an 11-2 overall record and as the No. 9 team in the FBS. The Cowboys finished the regular season alone on top of the Big 12 standings but fell inches short of a win in the conference championship game and potential spot in the College Football Playoff.

“This season will go down in Oklahoma State history,” said Bennett, who is majoring in Business Marketing. “I’m extremely grateful to be a part of such an incredible program.”

Bennett’s favorite game was beating Oklahoma in the annual Bedlam 37-33 to reach the Big 12 Championship game.

Bennett attended the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in 2011 when Oklahoma defeated UConn.

“I remember enjoying the game with some friends and the free chips,” recalled Bennett.

On Saturday, he expects to have tickets for 30-40 friends and family in the stands cheering on the local standout and his Cowboy teammates.

“I’m super excited for a lot of people to come see the Cowboys play that don’t usually get to,” said Bennett.
