The Notre Dame Preparatory track and field program delivered an impressive performance on Wednesday, hosting 21 teams at the 4th Annual Our Lady of Victory Invitational. Competing against a strong field, the Saints rose to the occasion with the boys team earning a 2nd place finish and the girls team placing 3rd overall.

A highlight of the meet came from junior Mattie-Mae Murphy, who made school history in the girls discus. Murphy captured first place while breaking the NDP school record with a throw of 106’ 3”, surpassing the previous mark of 101’ 3” set by Marika Lemmons in 2008.

The Saints saw continued success on the track, particularly in the hurdles. Senior Carlos Wallen led the way in the boys 110-meter hurdles, taking first place, while sophomore Ryder Ashcraft followed closely behind for a 1-2 finish. Wallen later returned to the track to claim 2nd in the 300-meter hurdles, recording a lifetime best. On the girls side, senior Brooke DeGrenier also delivered a standout performance, winning the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best time.

In the sprint events, freshman Isla Wieghaus impressed with a second-place finish in the girls 400-meter, clocking a lifetime best. The boys 4x100 relay team of junior Mason Pavone, sophomore Ryder Ashcraft, junior Decker Haskins-Smith, and senior Carlos Wallen raced to victory with an outstanding time.

Field events were equally dominant for the Saints. Junior Quinton Moody secured first place in the boys discus in dramatic fashion, clinching the win on his final throw. Senior Henry Curran led a strong showing in the boys javelin with a season-best throw to take first, while senior Tanner Auerbach and sophomore Connor Lampton added depth with 3rd and 5th place finishes.

Senior Betsy Brown soared to victory in the girls long jump, reaching a lifetime best mark of 16 feet. In the boys pole vault, senior Alex Smith led a clean sweep of the podium, joined by juniors Max Schmitz and Griffin Smith in 2nd and 3rd place. Senior Alie Nguyen added another first-place finish for the girls with a win in the pole vault.

The girls relay teams also delivered a strong collective performance, with the 4x100, 4x400, and 4x800 teams all placing while posting season-best times that are expected to qualify for the State meet.

With momentum building at the right time of the season, the Saints now turn their focus to the Northeast Valley Region Track & Field Championship. NDP will compete next Monday and Wednesday at Horizon High School, with events beginning at 2:30 p.m.
