The Notre Dame Prep Track & Field program capped off an incredible season with historic performances at the AIA Division II State Championships held May 7 and 9 at Red Mountain High School. The boys team earned a 9th-place finish, while the girls team placed 11th overall among 47 competing teams across the division.

This year’s team continued to raise the standard for the program, recording 55 marks in the NDP all-time Top 10 and breaking five school records throughout the season. During the careers of this year’s senior class, the program has broken half of all existing NDP school records in track & field — a remarkable accomplishment that highlights the growth and success of Saints athletics.

NDP qualified 31 boys and 33 girls athletes for the state championships and produced 12 All-State performances across multiple events.

Leading the way for the Saints was senior Carlos Wallen, who finished runner-up in the boys 300-meter hurdles and also placed 5th in the boys 110-meter hurdles. Alexander Smith earned a 3rd-place finish in the boys pole vault, while Quinton Moody took 3rd in the boys discus.

On the girls side, the 4x800 relay team of Gabriella Livneh, Claire Guerrero, Chloe Handel, and Carly Townend delivered a strong 4th-place finish. Sophomore Carly Townend also placed 4th in the girls 3200-meter race and added a 5th-place finish in the 1600 meters. Alie Nguyen finished 4th in the girls pole vault, and Sage Calvet earned 5th place in the girls high jump.

Additional standout performances included Henry Curran placing 5th in the boys javelin and the girls 4x400 relay team of Kennedy Smith, Gabriella Livneh, Claire Guerrero, and Isla Wieghaus finishing 7th overall.

State medalists for the Saints included:

The season is not over yet for several Saints athletes. NDP will send three athletes to compete at the Arizona Open Championships this weekend at Mesa Community College:

• Carlos Wallen — 110 and 300 hurdles
• Sage Calvet — Girls High Jump
• Quinton Moody — Boys Discus

Junior Max Schmitz will also represent the Saints at the State Decathlon Championships on May 22-23.
