Notre Dame Prep Track and Field hosted its first home meet of the season Wednesday night, welcoming more than 650 athletes from Pinnacle, Chaparral, Desert Mountain, Apollo, Sedona, John Paul II, Shadow Mountain, and Scottsdale Christian.

The Saints delivered a strong showing on their home track, with the girls team narrowly claiming first place, edging Chaparral by just half a point. The boys team finished second overall out of nine teams, falling only to Pinnacle.

A highlight of the night came from junior Mason Pavone, who broke his own school record in the boys long jump with an impressive leap of 21 feet, 11.5 inches to take first place.

Several Saints also claimed individual victories across the meet. Senior Brooke DeGrenier won the girls 100-meter hurdles, while senior Carlos Wallen had a standout performance, winning both the boys 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.

In the boys javelin, Notre Dame Prep took the top two spots with senior Henry Curran winning the event and senior Tanner Auerbach finishing second. On the girls side, junior Mattie-Mae Murphy captured first place in the discus with a lifetime-best throw.

The girls 4x800 relay team of senior Chloe Handel, junior Claire Guerrero, and sophomores Avery Trapp and Gabby Livneh also brought home a win, finishing with a season-best time.

The Saints will return to competition next week with a JV meet at Brophy and the Chandler Rotary Invitational on March 21.
