Call it the most significant autograph of their young football careers.
On Wednesday, Dec. 4, five Notre Dame Prep Football players made it official, signing their individual letters of intent at Football Signing Day to take their respective games to the next level.
Congratulations to the following student-athletes:
Dawson Dorward – University of St. Thomas
Drew Jacobs – Colorado School of Mines
Jason Samis – Drake University
Cody Wells – University of Nevada, Reno
Nate Wootton – Drake University
"These young men, their hard work is paying off," said NDP head Varsity Football coach George Prelock. "The fact that their parents entrusted me with them; they believed in me; they were able to navigate through four years of high school and now go play at that next level... I'm so proud of them. There are no words I can say to communicate how much I love them and how proud I am of what they've been able to accomplish."
Running back Jason Samis reflected on how playing under his head coach and the overall NDP academic experience has translated to personal success on and off the field.
"Aside from athletics, I've learned a lot of life lessons here, like dealing with adversity," said the Drake commit. "From learning always to do what's right or just looking out for others and my teammates, I learned about more than just becoming a better player. It's also made me a better person."
Defensive tackle and guard Nate Wootton echoed the sentiments of his fellow seniors, saying he will miss not only the environment at NDP but also the people.
"All the players and coaches are really close," he said. "In school, out of school or at football practice, we're always together no matter what. Losing that connection will be tough."
Added tight end Cody Wells, "Ever since I was a little kid, I dreamed of playing college ball. So, putting that pen to paper today, it's becoming real. It means everything to me."
