Guitar Orchestra is one of the most popular classes on campus. Mr. Philip Hemmo has the uncanny ability to transform beginners into classical musicians in a short amount of time. The advanced guitar orchestra class can be taken as a dual enrollment course for college credit.

Guitar Orchestra performs at various competitions and clinics around the Valley. They are always a popular act at our Winter and Spring Fine Arts Festivals on campus. They have recorded two CD's which are available for purchase through Mr. Hemmo or at this link.

Philip Hemmo is known throughout the United States as a teacher and performer of classical guitar. He has been featured in concerts throughout the US and Mexico as a soloist as well as working with symphonies and chamber ensembles. In addition to his performing schedule, Mr. Hemmo served on the faculties at both the University of Arizona, Pima Community College, and The University of Illinois - Springfield. His current post at Notre Dame Preparatory High School is where he currently teaches beginning guitar, advanced guitar, guitar orchestra, and he moderates the Tri M Musical Honor Society.

Mr. Hemmo is the author of the guitar method text ‘Beginning Classroom Guitar’ (Thompson Learning 1998 & 2004) which is the textbook of choice for guitar courses across the United States.  His recordings ‘Romantic Works for Classical Guitar’, ‘20th Century Works for Guitar’, 'Guitar Recital', and 'Petite Pieces for Classical Guitar', are featured on classical radio stations across the nation.   

Mr. Hemmo's students include international competition winners, performing artists, and current University instructors.  

Mr. Hemmo has begun recording all of the "Concert Etudes" by 19th Century Spanish Composer Francisco Tárrega. The 22 works will be included on his new CD expected to release Spring 2020. Each work is also being recorded in video format for teachers globally to utilize in their curriculum. He has nine recording done--13 more to go and he can release his new CD!
