The Notre Dame Preparatory boys track and field team delivered a historic performance at the Northeast Valley Regional Championships, highlighted by a record-breaking night from senior Carlos Wallen.
Wallen powered the Saints to a top-10 team finish with an unforgettable showing in the hurdles. In the boys 110-meter high hurdles, he broke his own school record with a time of 14.40, securing an automatic qualification to the Arizona Open Championships on May 15–16. He wasn’t finished there. Wallen returned to the track and captured the regional title in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking a 38.61 to break Brandon Senior’s long-standing 2011 school record of 38.70.
Beyond Wallen’s standout performance, several Saints earned All-Region honors for their efforts across both track and field events. Sophomore Sage Calvet was recognized in the girls high jump, while the girls 4x800 relay team of senior Chloe Handel, junior Claire Guerrero, and sophomores Carly Townend and Gabby Livneh turned in a strong performance to earn honors.
In the field events, senior Henry Curran (javelin), junior Quinton Moody (discus), and junior Mason Pavone (high jump) each secured All-Region recognition. On the track, the boys 4x100 relay team of Pavone, sophomore Ryder Ashcraft, sophomore Connor Lampton, and Wallen also earned All-Region honors, adding to an already impressive night for the program.
With momentum building at the right time, the Saints now set their sights on the AIA Division II Track & Field Championships. NDP will compete at Red Mountain High School on May 7 and 9 as they continue their postseason run.
