NDP Offers New Summer Experiential Learning Course Europe Trip in 2018!
Notre Dame Prep is proud to offer an exciting new opportunity for current sophomores and juniors— a guided tour of Italy combined with an interdisciplinary summer elective course! Experience a foreign culture as you are immersed in the rich heritage of art, architecture, history, and the theology that shaped our world and Western civilization!
After spending the first two class days of summer session here at Notre Dame Prep, we will travel overseas for 11 days. We fly from Phoenix to Milan. From there we will travel to Venice and visit the Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s square and a glass-blowing factory. Then we will travel to Florence, the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and take in all the sights of Florence including the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio.
From there we will visit St. Francis’ medieval town of Assisi and then travel to Rome. You will have 2.5 days to take in the grandeurs of classical Rome including the Forum, the Coliseum, and the beauty of Christian Rome including Saint Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. From there we will travel to the Sorrento region of Italy to see the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii and the island of Capri. You will experience the great works of faith and beauty that have moved people throughout the centuries, and enjoy the people, food, and culture of Mediterranean Europe at the same time!
The tour is fully integrated into an academic course that counts as a 1/2 elective credit at NDP. This is a different kind of course that is reflective and project-based (rather than tests), designed for personal growth and faith formation, as well as introducing new interdisciplinary thinking.
